We will look at a pair of ‘games’ involving squares in a rectangle and investigate some questions and create some puzzles connected to the games.

Grid Fun
In this session we will explore a number of mathematical explorations on grid paper. Dave will take requests for activities suitable for various age ranges.

There are various ways to play “battleship” to reinforce the relation between coordinates and points.
Here is one description:

Another activity I did not get to was making one figure and then scaling it up my labeling points and then multiplying the coordinates of each point by a number (say 10). You can use this to transfer
a picture a student draws on graph paper to a much larger version for a classroom wall.
There are so many things that can be done here…
Explore areas of tilted squares… Get Pythagorean theorem.
Perimiter vs area for edge-connected, simply-connected (or not) grid regions.
